When hurricane Harvey hit Texas and devastated the area, a little calf later named Harveigh was abandoned by her mother and father and left all alone to die in the wind and the flood waters. Luckily, a couple from southeast Texas named Tammy and Ren Canton learned of her fate and took it into their own hands to rescue the adorable baby.
You won’t believe what happened after they got her home.
The Cantons quickly realized they were not dealing with just any old calf, however. The couple already owned eight dogs, but when they found Harveigh, who was emaciated and near death, they knew they couldn’t just leave her there to die alone. They took her in and proceeded to nurse her back to health.
The Cantons are not unfamiliar with cows. Indeed, they have raised many cows on their farm.
“The few cows we have on our property are old show heifers and their offspring,” said Tammy.
Tammy made sure to add that the cows they have largely taken care of themselves, but raising Harveigh “was a whole new experience.” Indeed, it turns out that Harveigh is… well, special.
The baby cow made fast friends with all eight dogs, but especially a Pitbull named Sealy. Sealy and Harveight formed such a close bond that Tammy said Sealy has, “taken over as her caretaker.”
As it turns out, the two are now entirely inseparable. They do absolutely everything together and barely spend any time at all apart if they can help it.
“I don’t think they realize that she is a cow and not just a really big dog,” said Tammy. “Truthfully, I don’t think Harveigh sees herself any different from the dogs.”
Harveigh can even let herself right in the back door of the house if she wants to! Soon, the day will come when she is just too big to enter the house. The family built her a little cow condo right outside so she can easily visit with her friend Sealy whenever she wants.
