Alaskan Malamutes are known for their rich vocabulary. Their vocalizations are often made up of barks, chirps, yodels, howls, yips, rumbles and even human-like words. If you are looking for a quiet dog, the Alaskan Malamute would not be a good choice. However, if you enjoy hearing a dog’s voice the way that I do, whether you want an Alaskan Malamute or not, you are in for a treat.
A man was taking his 3 Alaskan Malamutes to the groomers when they all started vocalizing together. Some might call it howling, but if you listen in you will hear yips and other sounds. What I love just as much as their voices, is the intensity on their cute faces as they “sing.”
Thankfully, for all of us, this man videotaped his dogs while they were making these vocalizations. Make sure to turn your speaker up. Or if you have dogs in your house, you may want to put a set of earphones on so that your own dogs don’t hear this and bark. However, you choose to listen in, enjoy!

Is An Alaskan Malamute Right For You?
Before everyone rushes off to find an Alaskan Malamute to adopt, let’s take a look at some specifics of this breed. Alaskan Malamutes are very athletic dogs. Will your level of activity be able to keep up with such an athletic dog? Alaskan Malamutes want to run and do things enthusiastically. They need daily rigorous exercise. This is not a dog to put in a kennel, leave for work and come home expecting it will want to cuddle on your lap.
These dogs also have a strong prey drive, meaning most will take the first opportunity that comes their way to chase livestock or wildlife. It is important that you have a large yard and a very high fence for their safety and the safety of neighboring livestock or wildlife. This is a sweet and social breed, yet often misunderstood. Make sure to read up more on this breed before adding one to your home. To the right person they will be priceless but in the wrong household, they may end up surrendered to a shelter or killed from running loose down a highway.
