How are high school football players supposed to concentrate on practice when a random dog makes an appearance on the field? That is exactly what happened to a group of football players from Geraldine-Highwood High School in Montana. Practice makes perfect, right guys? Guys?

That’s what the charming basset hound had in mind when she showed up to their practice. However, it was going to take some convincing to get attention. But as the footage from the video shows, this random dog wasn’t about to take no for an answer.

My new favorite small town Montana moment. No one at Geraldine-Highwood football practice knows whose dog this is or where it came from. But he/she immediately became the team's new mascot.

The dog even offered to be their dog just for some tummy scratches. “Guys, use me. I’m ready!”

Cuteness Caught by KRTV

As it turns out, the dog was a random visitor dropping in on the team’s practice. No one knew who she was or where she came from. But despite displaying what might best be described as “the antithesis of athleticism,” sure enough, she made the cut.

“The head coach told me she just showed up at the start of practice and no one knew where she came from. They were referring to her as their ‘mascot,’” Thomas Wylie, who was there filming for KRTV News, told The Dodo. “It’s a very small town, so I assume she made it home or back to her owners alright. But she was as cute and friendly as can be. Just wanted to play with the players and be a part of practice.”

The hound got plenty of scratches and love in between plays. She even got passed between the players and set safely away from them so she wouldn’t get hurt. This pup’s performance on the field that day may leave something to be desired from a sports perspective — but she’s a star in our book. However, she’s more of a bench warmer than a tight-end!
